Everything Went Wrong - My 2021 Balcony Garden Update; a Cautionary Tale
Balcony Vegetable Garden Update - Everything Went Wrong! How I fixed my massive garden mistakes
I made so many mistakes in setting up my balcony garden that all culminated in me almost losing the whole garden and also my mind.
Gardening in Toronto, or any 4 season climate, typically takes place after "planting weekend" or "gardening weekend". In Canada we call it the May 2-4 long weekend, and it is known to be either furiously cold and wet, or bright, beautiful, and sunny. That's why people wait until after that weekend to garden - because the weather mellows out significantly and becomes much more hospitable for plant life to grow. I did not wait until that weekend, and rather foolishly got far too excited about 10 days beforehand. Giving in to my impulses, I planted my garden early and suffered the consequences. You'll never believe what happened! Let this be a cautionary tale. Frost, mold, loss, and so much more takes place in this video.
Be sure to watch my other gardening videos so that you can see how I set up the garden from scratch on my balcony, a small space, and how I planted edible herbs and vegetable plants in pots / container gardening. I'm no expert but I enjoy sharing my journey with you as I * hopefully * become a better gardener. I already feel an improvement over last year and I hope you can see it too. Gardening takes patience and practice and, as a farmer told me last summer, is one big ongoing science experiment. Everyone does it differently and yields different results. I hope you get a chance to plant an herb or vegetable garden either on your balcony or in your backyard, wherever you can make space for plants!
